Bandmaster's Message (1/3/25)

Dr. Steve Kellner:

Happy New Year, friends of The National Capital Band!  With the coming of the New Year, the band enters its 100th year of service to God and The Salvation Army.  When then Staff-Captain Ernest Holz founded the NCB as the “Washington Headquarters Band” back in 1925, he probably didn’t imagine that it would still be here a century later, nor could he have imagined the worldwide ministry that the band has enjoyed through the years.

The NCB has several special events on its calendar in the coming year to celebrate this significant milestone, beginning with a Centennial Celebration held at Camp Rappahannock on the weekend of April 11 - 13, 2025.  This celebration and reunion will be held in conjunction with the Potomac Division Music Councils and will feature Mark Ridenour, Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as guest soloist and clinician, and Major Mike Harris as guest speaker.  NCB alumni and friends are invited to join us for this event.  Details here.

Next, the NCB has been invited to serve as the duty band for the Southern Territory’s Commissioning Weekend (June 6-8), which will be presided over by the Chief of the Staff, Commissioner Edward Hill.  This will be an outstanding opportunity for the band to share its centennial celebration with the entire territory.

The final anniversary event will be the making of a centennial recording in November of 2025, which will include music from the band’s history and new music from members of the band.  This will be the twelfth recording produced by the band.

WELCOME!

Welcome, friends and supporters of the National Capital Band, and thank you for your interest in the band! Since 1925, the NCB has been spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and supporting the work of The Salvation Army in the nation’s capital area and beyond.

We invite you to explore our site to find lots of information about recent and upcoming events on the band’s schedule and the band’s members, programs, recordings, and history. If you have questions or comments, please drop us a line. We would love to hear from you.
